Art Filled Evening among the Roses

BY Sarah Comeau

Bob and Mary Jean Smith, local restaurateur, realtor and philanthropist, certainly knows how to host a lovely dinner party. Be a part of this memorable event on May 21st beginning at 5pm. Each Spring Mary Jean opens up her sprawling estate grounds at 156 W. Poplar Avenue for the Symphony in the Rose Garden, presented by the Collierville Arts Council. In its 11th year, the event will feature show tunes and a variety of orchestrations by the Germantown Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Ron Vernon. New this year, the event will begin with a champagne reception inside the 1921 classical home from 4-5pm exclusively for patrons and donors. Plein Air artists will be painting live on the grounds with their works for sale to commemorate a lovely evening among the over 1,000 rose bushes. Limited seating is available so purchase your tickets early. General admission for the concert is $30. The Symphony Wine Ticket (which includes wine, a commemorative glass and al fresco dinner by the pool after the concert) is $60. Tickets are available at the Silver Caboose, Banyan Tree Realtors, Bazaar, the Brooks Collection or at the entrance on the day of the event. All proceeds benefit the Collierville Arts Council, a 501(c)3 non-profit that supports cultural arts through theatre, music and fine art.
