Support Local VFW By Eating BBQ!

BY Regan Hewitt

You can help support Collierville VFW Post 5066 and eat BBQ – a win-win!

Starting now, if you purchase a $40 Commissary BBQ gift certificate through the VFW Auxiliary, you can help support local veterans and the post’s community efforts. A $40 gift certificate feeds 4-6 people and can be redeemed for a take-out BBQ meal at either Commissary location. They are valid until October 31st 2022.

The 6 pack meal contains BBQ meat and buns for 6 sandwiches, 1 quart of beans, 1 pint of coleslaw, BBQ sauce and 1 quart of their banana pudding! “These Commissary gift certificates are a great option for busy families or for businesses to give away as gifts to clients or employees,” said Teresa Johnson, VFW Post 5066 Auxiliary President.

Funds support community efforts, such as teacher grants, donations of food and clothing to the VA Hospital in Memphis and annual donations to Wreaths Across America. The local VFW goal is to place a holiday wreath on the gravesite of each veteran buried at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.

If you’d like to support the VFW but don’t eat BBQ, you can donate a gift certificate to a veteran or family-in-need. “We are thankful to help those who are going through a hard time. It’s so important to spread kindness during these difficult times!” said Johnson.

These gift certificates are available now – they are 100 of them and they’re expected to sell quickly, so act fast! They can be purchased via Venmo @Selena-Silvestro. Please call or text Teresa Johnson at 901-844-4440 with the address for delivery in Collierville or Germantown. Cash or check purchases can be arranged, if preferred.

If you’d like to sponsor a $15 wreath directly to the nonprofit organization, this convenient donation link supports their West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery outreach: https://tinyurl.com/WreathSponsor.
