| In
Collierville, "playing" is serious business!
Each
year, national and local sports teams vie for
the next championship at one of our incredible
sports complexes, a part of our immaculately maintained
parks system. Collierville
Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department
currently has eleven
regional and neighborhood parks totaling over
350 acres of parkland. Within these complexes
are over thirty athletic fields; gazebos and pavilions;
nearly a dozen modular play structures; fitness
tracks and unique water-spray areas for those
hot summer days.
Perhaps
the jewel of this system is the Collierville
Greenbelt System. Designed for the construction
of over 60 miles of trails and sidewalks connecting
parks, schools, neighborhoods and commercial districts;
the 8 ½ miles of completed greenbelt enhances
the natural beauty of the town. The Collierville
Greenbelt runs along laterals of the famous Wolf
River, preserving natural vegetation and providing
protected wildlife habitat. The
Wolf River provides a waterway of opportunities
connecting nature, wildlife experiences and outdoor
recreation. With over one million dollars invested
in conservation efforts alone, this is one Collierville
attraction that continues to develop. Tying this
nature area into the existing park system will
soon provide residents and visitors with a memorable
eco-tourism and soft adventure experience.
The
nearby Mike
Rose Soccer Complex sits on 136 acres and
boasts 16 fields designed to accommodate exhibition
games, tournaments, league games and special events;
as well as academies, camps and clinics, and coaches'
symposiums. In August of 2001, the 2,500 + seat
stadium of the complex was complete, making this
facility America's Premier Soccer Complex.
Indeed,
we take a great deal of pride in how we "play"
in Collierville. Collierville offers many entertaining
attractions such as pottery painting, candle
making, bowling, roller-skating and catching the
latest flick at a movie theatre. From escaping
the hectic day by retreating to a local spa and
salon, to sports tournaments, shopping and visiting
a local museum; we want our community and its
visitors to know that we appreciate taking time
out to have a little fun!
