It Starts with a Square

Hi! I’m Eleanor

BY Sarah Comeau

When I was a cute little puppy, I was loved. I could tell you all the tough details of my life, but for the sake of time let’s just fast forward to when a human found me wandering the streets and took me to the Collierville Animal Shelter. They gave me a bath, food and water, and had a vet look me over to make sure I was healthy. Now I have my own kennel where I have a dog bed and some toys. It’s safe here and the humans who work and volunteer here are so caring, but I still miss the joy that comes with loving and cozying with my very own humans.

When people first meet me, they go on and on because my eyes are gold, my coat is a special mix of silvery gray and blonde called blue brindle, and my ears are pretty amazing, amiright? I love that the
shelter refuses to label me. They call me a Collierville Canine and always remind people it’s about the dog, not the breed. Some of us here look like our breeds, but some of us don’t, and the humans here focus on us as individuals – assessing our personality, skills, needs and disposition. I love that!

There are so many different animal personalities and ages here at the shelter and the humans are great at matching us up with just the right family. Not to brag, but I have a happy and outgoing attitude and am a natural athlete! My favorite thing is to go for walks around the pond (I’m awesome on a leash) and then to go into the exercise yard and run out my zoomies. For that reason I would be happiest with someone who has a fenced back yard and who would like to take me on daily walks, throw the ball or even go on runs. But I also love to sit down and cozy with humans, especially if they pet me softly and give me belly rubs. For that reason, I’d be happiest as the only princess in the palace! I’ve also been told that I’m smart and learn very quickly. The humans here have already taught me sit and down commands!

Lately there’s been a lot of noise here at the shelter. I heard the humans talking about the new addition, which created new space for people to come and meet the dogs and cats that live here. If you’re in the neighborhood, you should stop in and see where I live! There are so many great animals here and we would love for you to visit or even volunteer. Having a human stop by and spend time with us makes our day. Don’t forget to swing by my kennel and say hi. You’ll see that I’m more than my breed, and may even discover that I’m the perfect companion for you!
