Goodbye to the Tie: John Aitken’s Retirement Reception

BY Regan Hewitt

Inside Collierville High School’s cafeteria, roughly 200 people gathered to remember the legacy of Collierville Schools’ first Superintendent, John S. Aitken. Multiple heartfelt speeches were shared of memories made during Aitken’s 39 years of service. During his time in the Shelby County School System, Aitken has been a math teacher, coach, Principal and Superintendent. Looking back on his nearly 40-year tenure, Aitken remarks, “There is nothing more rewarding as a lifelong educator than seeing your kids, your students, succeed.”

A proclamation was also given by the Mayor that June 30th be ‘John S. Aitken Day’. The man of the hour was also gifted a pair of bedazzled sneakers in commemoration of his service. Tour Collierville sends a sincere thanks to former Superintendent John Aitken for his years of commitment to our Collierville kids!
